What is Coaching?

Those who type to communicate need to have support for access across settings and situations. This is possible when a Communicator has a strong “circle of support” and can maintain that circle over time. For many Communicators, this means a consistent flow of new people learning the dynamics of support.  Coaching is a good way to develop a Communicator’s circle of support.  With Coaching, a person who has a good level of experience in using facilitated communication can help others who are new and just learning about it.  The Coach learns the tools of the ‘getting started’ process and applies them to meet the needs of the Communicator as well as the new Facilitator.

What does a Coach do?

A Coach meets with the Communicator and new Facilitator on a regular basis, teaching them how to apply the principles of facilitated communication to the needs of the communicator and helping them establish the goals and practice toward a successful process. For new Facilitators, the getting started process can be daunting and the Coach breaks it down into steps that are meaningful and doable. The basis for being a good Coach is to first develop the skills of a good Facilitator.
